Nouns and Articles
Gender, plurals, articles, determiners and quantities.

This unit covers noun gender, forming feminine and plural forms, and the definite, indefinite and partitive articles.
Gender is the foundation, because it determines the article and every adjective agreement that follows — one wrong gender produces several wrong words. Learn every new noun with its article attached, so you memorise la table rather than table. The articles themselves are where English speakers lose most marks, because French requires them where English drops them entirely: j'aime le sport, je mange du pain, j'étudie le français. The partitive is the most frequently omitted word in GCSE French. After a negative or an expression of quantity it collapses to plain de, which is examined constantly.
