GCSE subjects and revision resources

Foundation and Higher tiers. Maths, the sciences, Statistics and French are tiered. Foundation papers are graded 1–5 and Higher papers 4–9, so the tier you sit sets the highest grade available to you. Most topics appear on both papers, but some are Higher tier only — you’ll see this marked clearly on every topic page, so you never revise content that can’t appear in your exam. If you’re unsure which tier you’re entered for, ask your teacher before you plan your revision.

Combined Science and Triple Science.Combined Science (AQA Trilogy) is worth two GCSEs and covers biology, chemistry and physics in a single qualification. It’s the route most students take. Triple, or Separate, Science is three individual GCSEs with additional content. Our biology, chemistry and physics pages cover both: anything examined only on the separate sciences is badged “Triple only”, so Combined students know it isn’t needed.

Exam boards. Most GCSE content is set by the Department for Education, so the core material is shared across AQA, Edexcel and OCR — the boards mainly differ in how they organise and assess it. Our maths and science resources are built to AQA and cover Edexcel and OCR where the content matches. Computer Science and French are built specifically to the AQA specification, because those subjects diverge more between boards and we’d rather be accurate for one than approximate for three. Every page states which boards it covers.

Keeping up with specification changes.Specifications change. GCSE French moved to a new specification with first exams in 2026, and Computer Science has been reformed for first exams in 2027. Our resources follow the current specification, not the one being phased out — so if a topic looks unfamiliar from an older revision guide, it’s likely because the specification itself has changed.
