Geometry & Measures

Shape, angles, trigonometry, area, volume and vectors.

59 topics

Geometry and Measures is the largest unit on the course, covering angle rules, properties of shapes, area and volume, transformations, constructions and loci, Pythagoras, trigonometry, circle theorems and vectors. Treat it as a map rather than a sequence — the topics group into families that can be tackled in almost any order.

Start with angle facts and shape properties, since almost everything else refers back to them. Area and volume form their own strand. Pythagoras and trigonometry belong together and lead into the sine and cosine rules at Higher. Circle theorems and vectors sit at the top end and reward learning the named results precisely. Marks are most often lost through unlabelled diagrams, using a rounded value partway through a multi-step calculation, and quoting a theorem without naming it. Draw on the diagram, and name the rule you are using.
