Computer Networks
Network types, topologies, protocols and the TCP/IP model.
5 topics
Computer Networks covers network types, wired and wireless connections, protocols, the TCP/IP model and network security.
It is a small unit and largely factual, but the facts need to be precise. LANs and WANs differ in both geographical area and who owns the connecting infrastructure, and answers giving only one of those are incomplete. Each protocol needs its specific purpose, and the pairs that students confuse are worth learning together — TCP handles packets while IP handles addressing, and POP deletes messages from the server while IMAP leaves them there. The four layers of the TCP/IP model must be known in order, and the benefit of layering is that each layer can be changed without affecting the others.
