Exam Skills

Translation, reading, listening, speaking and writing technique.

10 topics

This unit covers translation in both directions, the writing tasks, speaking role-plays and photo cards, reading and listening comprehension, and dictation.

Each paper rewards a specific approach rather than more vocabulary. In translation, identify the verb and its tense before writing anything, and expect structures that need restructuring rather than word-for-word rendering. Writing tasks are marked on covering every bullet and on accuracy, so a correct simple sentence beats an incorrect ambitious one. In role-plays, an exclamation mark means you must ask a question. For listening, answer during the first playing and use the second to check. Across every paper, the same three checks catch most avoidable errors: verb agreement, adjective agreement, and the presence of the article.
