Theme 2: Popular Culture

This theme covers hobbies and free time, sport, music, film and television, festivals and customs, and celebrity culture.

The grammatical hinge is choosing the right verb for an activity: jouer à for games and team sports, jouer de for musical instruments, and faire de for most other activities. Getting these wrong is examined directly. Beyond that, this theme rewards developed answers more than any other, because the questions invite opinion. Frequency phrases and places extend a sentence without needing new vocabulary, and a justified view earns far more than a stated preference. For celebrity and role model questions, presenting both sides and linking them with cependant is what reaches the higher bands.
